We, the undersigned residents, respectfully request that Vanderburgh County evaluate our neighborhood and reduce the posted speed limit from 30 MPH to 20 MPH.

Our neighborhood is a residential community where families, children, pedestrians, cyclists, and pet owners regularly use the roadway. Because there are no sidewalks, residents must walk, jog, ride bicycles, and push strollers along the edge of the street or within the roadway itself. This creates an environment where pedestrians and vehicles routinely share the same space.

Children are especially vulnerable in residential neighborhoods. Even when they are taught proper traffic safety and supervised, children can behave unpredictably. Lower vehicle speeds provide drivers with additional time to recognize hazards, react appropriately, and stop safely if a child, pedestrian, cyclist, or pet unexpectedly enters the roadway.

A reduction to 20 MPH would better reflect the residential character of our neighborhood and promote safer driving where people of all ages regularly live, walk, and play. Research has consistently shown that lower vehicle speeds reduce both the likelihood of collisions and the severity of injuries when crashes occur.

In addition to reducing the speed limit, we respectfully ask Vanderburgh County to evaluate our neighborhood for any other appropriate traffic safety improvements, including enhanced roadway signage, speed feedback signs, and/or pavement markings.

Our goal is to create a safer neighborhood for everyone while preserving the quality of life for the families who live here. We appreciate your consideration of this request and your commitment to protecting the residents of Vanderburgh County.
