Name Bernie Sanders the Chair of the Democratic National Committee

The Issue

As many supporters of Bernie Sanders have guessed for a while, the Democratic establishment has passed off the Sanders campaign from the very begin. With the Guccifer 2.0 attack on the DNC, we learned that "HRC" was considered the favorite of the Democratic Party from the beginning. Democratic Party elites wanted to focus on campaigning against the Republicans before votes for the first primaries were even cast. This is what Bernie Sanders is talking about when he says the system is rigged. This is the anger he's tapping into on the campaign trail, not some sexist populist rhetoric tailor-made for "losers" and "lazy people". If things are so rigged then what do we do about it? Do we campaign for a progressive/socialist VP to run alongside Hillary? Well Elizabeth Warren was interested and the sentiment was apparently mutual by HRC's campaign. Fast forward to a week ago and we are already hearing stories about how Hillary's Wall Street donors are making Hillary choose between them and Warren (Warren is best known for her very pro bank-busting sentiments). The silence we've been hearing on Hillary's vp choice since then is very telling. Tim Kaine looks like the non-progressive front-runner, as he's seen as being "experienced" (and comes from Virginia, a very critical swing-state for Clinton). Interestingly enough, Mr. Kaine made his first public comments against Trump (attacking presidential candidates is vital to running as a vp and Warren's attacks on Trump were the catalyst to talks of her as the vp) yesterday. Although things can change, and maybe Senator Warren will be seriously considered for the VP slot, it's not looking good. With news coming out about members of the Platform Committee striking down progressive initiatives, I'm genuinely concerned that Bernies revolution will just be brushed off as a fluke or a hiccup by the Democratic elite. Let's change that. Let's start by demanding that Bernie Sanders be named the Chair of the Democratic National Committee. The chair of the DNC actually wields some real power as Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, a Clinton crony, has shown us. When Barack OBAMA was on the campaign trail in 2008, he attempted to reform campaign finance by refusing donations from large donors. Mr. Obama did an outstanding job of staying true to his promises on the campaign trail. As the election went on, Hillary Clinton and her party holdouts continued to resist against this idea until it finally reached a breaking point towards the end of the primary race. The Clintons insisted on installing their crony Debbie Wasserman-Schultz if Barack Obama wanted her support. He obliged. Of course, as soon as Mr. Obama got to Washington at the beginning of his first term, he tried to make election finance reform happen on a large scale. He was opposed by, guess who, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. DWS was also a driving force behind the Citizens United decision that opened up the floodgates for big money in politics. Well, times have changed. I say if Mrs. Clinton wants my support, and the support of other Bernie supporters, then she should give us exactly what Mr. Obama gave her. That way, we'll have a DNC chair who fights for change, not against it. (Disclaimer: The Bernie for DNC chair is not my original idea. I originally first heard of the idea from Senate-hopeful Tim Canova, who just so happens to be running against DWS and has a platform practically the same as Bernie's. If you live in Florida please make sure you vote for Mr. Canova, as well as Alan Grayson if you happen to live in his district. Also make sure you pay attention to other races going on around the country! The race for Russ Feingold in Wisconsin is another huge one as he's running against a corrupt NRA enabler in Ron Johnson.)
