The A4174 and its junctions at Frenchay, Bromley Heath, Downend, Emersons Green, and Shortwood are notoriously congested with extreme pressure on junction 1 of the M32. This causes excessive local pollution at peak times such as poor air quality and increased noise as well as very long Delivery and commuting delays, including school runs.

There has been a proposal for a new junction (J18a) between J18 and J19 for more than 20 years yet despite the increase in housing in the area, and Bristol in general, (i.e. significant increase in the population), a decision has still not been made to start work. As it is, there is a proposal that will possibly be reviewed at the end of 2019 and if agreed it is expected to be complete by 2025. I think that's a long time and bear in mind that's only if it gets the 'go ahead' then. What's to say the decision won't be delayed again? I say we demand it should be given the 'go ahead' at once.
