End the College Board

End the College Board
The Issue
AP courses are thought to be advanced courses that high schoolers take all over the US and even in other countries to redeem college credit. Although the College Board, the company who creates these exams and others such as the SAT claim they always have the student in mind, it is clear that this company is greedy for money, does not equate to a college course, and greatly hinders our chances in the college admissions process.
During the pandemic, many expected AP exams to be cancelled due to the lack of a formal education environment and organization. However, the College Board refused to not give out an exam and lose money. They created a quick solution that was convenient for themselves: a 45 minute exam that would be accessible to students through electronic devices. This exam worth even less than the standard AP exam in comparison to real college courses or AP alternatives such as dual enrollment programs, and does NOT prepare a high schooler for a college environment. In fact, top private universities and Ivy League schools do not accept AP exams for college credit.
AP exams and SATs also harm children in terms of getting into college. High schoolers with a lack of an adequate education, which prevails in lower income areas, will always have lower scores. This puts higher income students at an advantage, leaving POC, immigrants, and people in low economic standing behind. Other aspects in college admissions make this even harder, such as financial aid and affirmative action.
The College Board is CLEARLY capitalizing off of children's education They justify this by compensating with a mediocre, "college" education that pulls students back instead of pushing them ahead in the corrupt and unjust college admissions process we have today.
BY REFUSING TO TAKE AP AND SAT EXAMS, WE CAN TAKE POWER AND MONEY AWAY FROM THE CORRUPT COLLEGE BOARD, AND CREATE A MOVEMENT TO MAKE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS FAIR TO ALL PEOPLE.
