HIGH PARK RALLY FOR ACCESS THIS SATURDAY!

 Saturday June 13th.11.00am to 1.00pm

High Park Gate Bloor Street West

or/and write to you Councillor, the Mayor_chow@toronto.ca and highparkmove@toronto.ca to say what you think about lack of access into High Park! Fight For What is Right!

UPDATE!!!!

The plan proposed by the High Park Movement Group to re-locate the Bike Path from West Road along the north side of  the Main Cafe Parking Lot and then back onto Colborne Lodge Drive is both flawed and unsafe.

With a 144 spaces the Cafe Parking Lot  is the parks main parking area which does not even provide adequate parking for the Cafe. It is situated beside  the Dog Park, Dream In the Park, Hawk Hill and the Zoo as well as central to the many beautiful gardens , not forgetting the main year round Washrooms!  The Cycle Path  would mean the removal of at least 44 Parking Spaces , leaving only 100..

This area likely has the highest foot traffic in the park, with many visitors crossing in all directions to reach the Labyrinth, Playing Fields, Swimming Pool and  Birding on Hawk Hill. In addition to Cafe patrons it is the main  parking area for the The Zoo , Dog Hill, High Park Nature Centre and Dream in the Park ! Busiest pedestrian area in  the park.

Placing the Bike Route along the north side of the parking lot will  also mean visitors will be constantly crossing the Bike path to climb Hawk Hill, walk the Labyrinth, get to the baseball diamonds, soccer fields, visit the Dog Park and attend the Dream, while the speeding cyclists will not stop even if there are marked pedestrian crossings!

The idea that the proposed change would prevent traffic “conflicts” at Centre Road and Colborne Lodge Drive is weak—the real problem is that speeding cyclists don’t slow or stop at the sign. Cyclists coming from Colborne Lodge Drive/Queensway would still pose the same issue.

High Park needs  accessibility and a good Bike Lane,   but  a Speed Racing Track in a busy Public Park is not appropriate, nor  is the proposed Bike Path in the  Parking Lot!

Surely the City can plan Roadways and Bike Lanes that actually work!
