High Park : No Seats, No Shelter, No Shuttle
High Park has been closed to vehicles on weekends and holidays since March 2020, SIX years ago! This year the Seasonal Bus 203 running from High Park Subway around the West Road and Colborne Lodge Drive Loop, schedule was increased to 182 days a year from mid- March to October.
While this is certainly an improvement, it barely begins to solve the ACCESS issue.
Certainly, it does not meet AODA standards, boarding from the High Park Subway every twenty minutes there is no shelter and no seating available to travellers at the Subway Stop , this issue continues, no shelter at the first stop-Bloor Gate, no shelter or seating at the Baseball Fields Stop, no shelter at the Grenadier Stop, no shelter at the Pool and it should be noted that as the bus only runs around the Loop -West Road and Colborne Lodge Drive, therefore does not assist visitors in reaching many of the parks venues, and ceases at 7.00pm so it does not provide Dream in the Park attendees a way to get home in the dark!
HPMS Highlights from Summer 2022 Engagement stated:
Accessibility remains a common theme in feedback. Many participants noted that some visitors rely on vehicle access, especially for interior park destinations and activities that require equipment. The need for improved transit service was often highlighted
The High Park Movement Study also proposed a free daily free shuttle to be running prior to closing High Park seven days a week to vehicles? Where is it?
High Park should be Open to All….
