RE: Expensive Wind Energy

Dear Chair Hansen and Members of the Committee,

We, the undersigned citizens of Delaware, are writing to express our strong opposition to the recent legislative changes and policies that have obscured the true costs of green energy initiatives. These changes threaten to industrialize our cherished coastlines, destroy vital recreational areas, and dismantle Delaware’s largest tourism destinations, which are essential to the economic and cultural fabric of our state.

The lack of transparency surrounding the costs of renewable energy projects, particularly offshore wind developments, is unacceptable. Residents and business owners are bearing the financial burden of these initiatives without adequate public input or understanding of the long-term consequences. Instead of benefiting the people of Delaware, these changes prioritize corporate interests and developers while ignoring the voices of those most affected.

Our coastal areas, renowned for their beauty and recreational opportunities, have long been a cornerstone of Delaware’s tourism-driven economy. Industrializing these areas with large-scale wind farms and related infrastructure will not only degrade their natural allure but also displace local businesses and harm property values, creating a ripple effect across multiple sectors. Tourism, which provides jobs and sustains small businesses, is at serious risk.

We, the people, demand that you take immediate action to:

Repeal the legislative changes of SB 33 that hide the costs of green energy from public view and undermine accountability.
Provide full transparency regarding the financial, environmental, and social impacts of ongoing and future renewable energy projects.
Protect Delaware’s coastlines and tourism sector by halting further industrialization of our recreational and natural areas.
We will not accept any proposal that seeks to industrialize our coast with wind turbines. Delaware’s coastal character, economy, and environmental integrity are non-negotiable. Large-scale wind farms threaten to dismantle what makes our state unique, and we demand that any renewable energy efforts respect the preservation of our communities, natural resources, and thriving tourism industry. Without a commitment to protecting our shores, the state risks devastating long-term consequences that we refuse to allow..

We urge you to prioritize the well-being of Delaware residents over short-term gains and corporate interests. Please consider the long-term impact of these policies and commit to restoring public trust through greater transparency and fair decision-making.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. We look forward to your response and hope to see meaningful action that reflects the will of your constituents.

Sincerely,

The undersigned list of Constituents and Citizens of the State of Delaware
