Herriman High school Sadie’s

The Issue

Everyone deserves the right to traditional high school experiences, regardless of what school they attend. As a student at Herriman High School, I feel my peers and I are missing out on an key part of our high school experience: a Sadie's dance. All around us, other schools have this dance, and it leaves us asking, why don't we?

Sadie's dances have been part of American high school culture since the mid-20th century. It's a unique event where the traditional dating roles are reversed, bringing a fun and empowering twist to our social calendar. Many high schools nationwide host annual Sadie's dances, promoting a different social dynamic and an all-around fun evening.

It's 2024, yet Herriman High School is one of the few schools that is not upholding this tradition this year, robbing its students of inclusive experiences that other schools offer. This imbalance can have a subtle but significant impact on the school community.

Let's ensure Herriman high school broadens its outlook, and stays at par with surrounding high schools. As students, parents, teachers, and community members, let's lift our voice together. We implore the school administration to uphold this tradition and incorporate a Sadie's dance in the upcoming school year. Please sign this petition to help us bring the Sadie's dance to Herriman High School.
