The Issue

Heritage Park Theater's owner and the city council are discussing a plan the use the land for other purposes such as: retail stores, restaurants, and grocery stores. While most support the idea of developing the land, they are not planning to keep the theater in that plot of land (AKA take it down). We believe that the theater building needs to stay intact and be kept open, for the only other theater in Duncan can only show 2 movies at once and is starting to show signs of wear and tear. Heritage Park Theaters can actually show 6 movies at a time! and has great movies to show. I have even took it upon myself to talk with people in the city of Duncan and I would say 75% of the time they agreed the the movie theater has a positive role. Couples can go there to watch movies. Families can get out of the house without having a limited selection from 2 movies or having to drive to Lawton's Imax to see a good movie. Also it is one of the few  good places for teens to hang out with their friends. So why does it have to come down for more restaurants and grocery stores? Why can't it be kept? From my own experiences, I have always loved the movie theater for the 5 years i have been here. One of the first movies I ever got to go to with my friends was "Spider-Man: No Way Home". Honestly for how many movies they can show I'm surprised how cheap the tickets were and the candy compared to a movie theater like Imax. For example, to go see the new "The Mandalorian and Grogu" Movie in AMC Patriot 13 (AKA the Imax in Lawton) With middle row seats cost about $17.97 and for a child it is $14.70! However to see the same movie with your seat of choice at heritage cost $8 for general admission(ages 12-59) and only $6 for seniors (60+) and kids 11 and under. It is our jobs as citizens of Stephens County to support and protect our theater and show that we know it is worth keeping. So please participate in this petition to help show them we should keep it!
