Make amends to the descendants of victims of slavery

The Issue

More than 150 years have passed since the abolition of slavery in the UK and the British colonies. According to the law on the abolition of slavery in certain parts of the British Empire adopted in 1833, the government had to provide a multimillion compensation to the victims. However, the British authorities considered the slave owners to deserve the so-called "compensation for slavery", and not the people enslaved by them. Down to date nobody tried to restore justice for the ex-slaves.
Throughout all these years the issue on payments to the descendants of once enslaved people has been raised many times. United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet has recently called upon the ex-colonial states to pay damages done during ages of violence and discrimination. The necessity of the reparations was also discussed multiple times during meetings of the US legislative bodies. It was as long ago as 2009 that the US Senate adopted the resolution to bring apologies to African Americans for "the offenses against them and their ancestors". However the British authorities never offered to pay damages to the modern descendants of the slaves for hundreds of years of the bonded labor of their ancestors, although it was the British government who actually instigated transition of people from Africa to British colonies. Moreover, the government of Great Britain hasn't even considered the issue on necessity of legislative consolidation of responsibility of an ex-colonial state for having been involved in slave trade and slavery for all these years.
Obviously, not only the victims but also their contemporary descendants have the right to get financial compensation for the damage done regardless of time past. We believe it's necessary to solve the issue on providing reparations on the highest level. In our opinion the best solution is to create a special foundation with further financing of it from the budget of the state and the Royal Family. It's high time for the British Monarchy to bear responsibility for being involved in such a shameful episode of the country's history and to pay damages to people whose families directly suffered from outrageous crimes against the humanity committed by the ancestors of modern nationals of the United Kingdom.
