Remove The Confederate Monument In Lancaster, SC And Place It In A Musuem Where It Belongs

The Issue

We can not change as a world until we first change ourselves, our community, our city, our state, and then our country. That change starts now. Plainly stated, we’ve suffered enough as an underprivileged minority race. Please help us have the confederate monument located on the grounds of the courthouse on Main St. in lancaster SC removed. The statue represents the very traitorous, insurrectionist, and domestic enemies that our elected officials were sworn in to uphold our constitution from. These monuments were built solely to teach future generations of the confederacy superiority & supremacy over minorities, about a group who sought to subjugate an entire race of people. From that fact alone, whether inadvertently or intentionally, they are a constant reminder to us that equality was never in the equation for people of color. All we are asking for is equality, and for the community and town we love to represent that equality wholeheartedly. The Daughters of confederacy have succeeded in overpainting the true meaning of the confederacy and its pivotal role in slavery, However, we know different. The statue was placed on a small portion of the courtyard that is said to be privately owned. Many have said that this task will be impossible because of that fact alone, however, We beg to differ. With a monument that stands tall right in the heart of our town that represents the glorification of white supremacy and is responsible for memorializing a treasonous government whose founding principle was the perpetuation and expansion of slavery, It’s almost impossible to feel fully free. How could any person of color expect to have justice at this courthouse when the monument in front of it so boldly represents the injustices that were done to us? If the city and state we live in still supports what the statue represents, then I pray that God unveils their hidden characters by allowing this statue to stay up...But if this is the town, city, and community I know and trust it to be, then this will be a just rectification long overdue.
