The Issue

If you are a Hendersonville, North Carolina Resident, Please consider signing this very important petition:

Hawthorne Residential Partners and Civil Design Concepts have applied for a Conditional Rezoning of a 22 acre parcel of undeveloped, pristine land, habitat for a variety of wildlife, woods, creek, all abutting a number of well established residential homes, many of which are in a historical district representative of the charm and history of Hendersonville.  The acreage is at 1741 Haywood Rd. close to its corner with Blythe.  The tenants of the proposed 8 building, 3 & 4 story 263 apartment units, 400+ parking spots will all exit onto Haywood Rd., an already heavily trafficked 2 lane road.  The development, is not affordable housing, but rather expensive 1,2,3 bedroom apartments with a pool, clubhouse and proposed charging stations for Tesla automobiles.  Rents range from approximately $1200 - $1800 per month which clearly would eliminate potential lower/medium income residents.

There are a number of reasons to stop this rezoning.  At risk are the aesthetics of the older, character rich homes in the area, the charm that is Hendersonvillle and why people come to live here, extensive traffic congestion increase on Haywood Rd. and in escape neighborhoods, invasion of privacy of adjacent properties, infrastructure burden, flood plain concerns, destruction of natural habitat for a variety of established species, deforestation,  property value loss, school system's ability to absorb and serve additional children, emergency responders and hospital access, increased air pollution and more.  Importantly, it would set a bad precedent for development in other neighborhoods,  Further, it is in direct opposition to the city's recently adopted commitment to "preserve the neighborhoods".

No one will argue that Hendersonville needs more affordable housing.  The proposed development is not affordable housing.  It will be "market rate". The location chosen for this project is untenable.  If you are a Hendersonville resident, please sign this petition to voice your opposition and help stop this project.  It could be your neighborhood next!
