The Issue

In a world where we often find ourselves questioning the resilience of the human spirit, there are still those among us who refuse to let hope die. I am one such person, driven by a deep belief that humanity isn't dead or beyond redemption. Therefore, I am calling for the establishment of a Community Violence Intervention (CVI) team, supported by a state grant. These are individuals who, undeterred by daunting challenges, tirelessly work at the grassroots level to combat violence and provide support.

The concept is simple: Empower and formalize those who are already doing this important work in everyday life. We envision a dedicated force composed of 250 men and women who act as good Samaritans, stepping forward to protect and uplift their communities. It's a move that not only acknowledges their efforts but equips them with resources and training they need to be even more effective.

One significant feature of this proposal is the accountability shield, enhanced by trauma response from artificial intelligence and other psychological data. This innovation will ensure that our CVI team operates with transparency and impact, using cutting-edge technology to make informed interventions. Data-driven solutions mean that each step taken is rooted in an understanding of the community's needs and the strategies most likely to yield positive outcomes.

This initiative is not just about curbing violence; it's about bringing hope, stability, and resilience back to the heart of our neighborhoods. And it's about creating sustainable change that can be replicated across the state, serving as a model for other regions grappling with similar challenges.

We need the state to recognize and support this mission by providing the necessary funding to launch the CVI team. Every act of kindness and courage, no matter how small, feeds into a larger movement for community care and justice. Join us in this fight for the common good.

Please sign this petition to urge our state leaders to fund this critical initiative, ensuring a safer and stronger community for all.

By signing below, I, a resident or stakeholder of Akron, Ohio, express my support for the 'Citizens On Duty' initiative. I support the deployment of 250 trained, body-camera-equipped Peacemakers to provide non-violent de-escalation and medical first response. I believe this initiative will increase safety and accountability in our neighborhoods."
