Despite my busy, fast-paced days, there’s an idea that keeps echoing in my mind, and today I want to share it with you. 💙 What if our community took the next step by supporting legislation to better serve families of children with autism? I believe the time has come to advocate for the creation of an Autism Family Resource & Support Center—a place where families can find, all in one location: ✔️ Guidance through the early diagnosis process. ✔️ Information about therapies, available resources, and assistance programs. ✔️ Help navigating services, benefits, and support systems. ✔️ Psychological support for parents and caregivers, especially during the difficult process of accepting an autism diagnosis. Receiving this news can bring fear, uncertainty, sadness, and countless questions. Having professional support from the very beginning can make a tremendous difference in the emotional well-being of the entire family. ✔️ Educational workshops and seminars led by specialists. ✔️ Parent and caregiver support groups where families can share experiences, learn from one another, and be reminded that they are not alone. Over the years, and through the work I do, I have had the privilege of meeting dozens of families who, just like mine, fight every single day to give their children the best possible future. One thing keeps coming up again and again: the lack of knowledge about autism, limited guidance, difficulty accessing early diagnosis, therapies, emotional support, available resources, and true inclusion. An autism diagnosis doesn’t just change a child’s life—it transforms the life of the entire family. I can personally testify that early diagnosis makes a life-changing difference. Too often, parents don’t know where to begin, what resources are available, or how to emotionally navigate this new chapter. A center dedicated to guiding, supporting, educating, and connecting families could change the future of countless children by helping them receive the services they need during the most important years of their development. I don’t have the financial resources to build something like this myself. But if I did, I wouldn’t hesitate for a single second. I truly believe that our city and government agencies have the ability to make this vision a reality. Let’s listen to the families in our community so we can better understand their needs and work together toward meaningful solutions.
