Far too long, Instagram’s extremely vague & inconsistently applied community guidelines have been a source of anxiety, stress, and trauma for women posting pictures of feet on the platform.

Inconspicuous images and video depicting pedicures and modeling woman’s footwear are miscategorized as sexually explicit content, and worse, sexual solicitation.

The appeal process is often times too time consuming and offers a temporary solution.  Nothing within the guidelines prohibits pictures of feet and shoes. So why then do we keep getting suspended and flagged? Who does this hurt most? Women posting non-sexual photos of their feet.

On a platform that allows some women to post belfies, bikini shots, and other sexually suggestive, almost nude, content...feet are categorized and treated as taboo? This level of stigmatization and discrimination leads many women to feel as though they are less-than and dirty. It is outrageous that IG abuses women posting pictures of their feet while allowing other to post far worse content.

The argument for feet being considered sexual content is lazy and irrelevant. Is IG willing to ban pictures of children because a small subset of IGs users are pedophiles? What about those with a hand fetish? And let’s not forget the bikini and belfie photos. The sad truth of the matter is that men will find anything and any reason to masturbate... It does not mean the content foot models post is sexually explicit.

Further more this extends beyond pictures of feet. A young woman has had her selfie removed for no apparent reason. She was discriminated, again, for being a foot model.

Another user was flagged for depicting a shirt with foot art on it. This is beyond bizarre and we demand answers!

Let’s discuss bullying and harassment. I was personally attacked online for not having sexual content. Did IG do their due diligence in protecting me from this harassment? No. It’s been a week and they are still investigating my report.

The only answer that seems to explain IGs inconsistent application of deliberately vague guidelines regarding sexual content and feet is nothing other than a sexist discrimination and hate towards women posting their feet.

We want the right and freedom to post our content without being harassed and bullied by IG admins. Our foot content isn’t pornographic. Our foot content isn’t sex work. Our foot content is far more adherent to the nebulous and vague community guideline than some other content found on IG. This is discriminatory towards woman’s bodies everywhere and we are sick of it.
