Help Us Save Darby St Early Learning Centre

The issue

Dear Community,

We, the Concerned Parents of Darby St Childcare, have recently been informed of the heartbreaking news regarding the imminent closure of our much-loved Early Learning Centre at 41 Darby Street, currently operating as Samaritans Early Learning Centre.

Like our counterparts in Woodberry, whose Samaritans-run centre also faces closure, we are deeply troubled by the prospect of losing this invaluable service. Our centre's dedicated staff not only offer exceptional care for our children but also nurture a strong sense of community among families in Newcastle CBD and beyond.

The closure would be a huge blow to our community. This not-for-profit centre, the only one in the Newcastle CBD, serves as a crucial support system for local families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds—not only allowing parents to remain in the workforce but also offering care for children at risk and in out-of-home care. With the severe shortage of childcare places, losing this centre would be devastating. Furthermore, the closure threatens the livelihoods of the highly skilled and compassionate educators who have been central to our children's development.

For nearly 30 years, this centre has been a cornerstone of our community. We know many of you share our commitment to keeping this essential and cherished resource alive. We urgently need your support to help us save it as we seek to transition the service to another not-for-profit childcare provider.

Please join us in our effort by signing our petition. Your support is crucial in fighting for the continuation of this vital service.

Thank you for standing with us.
