Plastic bags put our wildlife, environment, and us at stake. Plastic bags contaminate the entire world, and just because you threw away your plastic bag on the ground it may for disappear for the rest of your day, but it doesn't magically disappear. According to studies from Richland Center Wisconsin, it takes a plastic bag on average 10-20 years to decompose. And “decomposing” means turning into microplastics that get into our oceans and mangroves contaminating not only our environment but what we eat and drink as well. We must act now for a variety of reasons. Hurricanes that hit Florida cause serious damage not only to our communities but to our oceans and mangroves. The light weight of many single-use plastic items causes them to be taken up by the hurricane's winds and leaving them trapped and entangled in mangroves which leads to serious damage to mangroves and wildlife who mistake it for food. Plastic litters our state no matter where you are and we must act now. Humans caused this and now we must fix this.
