HELP US FIGHT WORTHING COUNCIL

The Issue

Worthing Borough Council Licensing served Angels Bar and Club  with an Application for a Licence Review. Worthing Borough Council (WBC)  are threatening to close Angels Bar and Club by saying we are a noise nuisance.

Having invested more than 300K into the Worthing night time scene we are proud to have created a safe and friendly space for all. Angels has been a Nightclub in the Town under various names like Bar Ten for the past 30 years.

We ask for Worthing Borough Council Licensing to remove the Application and for the Council to address the real issue here which is that housing with ill-considered planning and construction has been approved and built next to a pre-existing  music business. Bar Ten as it was known then is located at 10 High Street. Over the past 20 years, flats have been built or existing buildings converted to flats around us with no real thought or consideration to the pre-existing business, building and what it does.

We also ask not to be labelled us as a ‘nuisance’. We believe we are a real cultural asset to the Town. We believe we are a key part of Worthing Night time economy  and are very proud of what we have achieved.

Despite relying to survive the cost of living crises , fighting our position and surviving, despite the venue being  only open 3 nights  week and only just recently getting back to what we do, we’ve now been presented with this new threat form the Council. We are devastated by this action served upon us.

The first step is the Licensing Committee meeting on May 8th which may result in Angels being restricted in its operations. The second stage would be an appeal to the Courts which will cost not only us but the local tax payer of Worthing money (probably tens of thousands). The neighbours at 8 High Street and the rest of Elm Road have decided they don't want to live next door to night club that's been around for 30 years. The have coerced and harassed the local councillors along with the council to start this action.

Help us to keep the venue alive!! We also encourage EVERYONE to attend the hearing on May 8th at Worthing Town Hall.
