This petition is in support of the new project proposed for 55-337 Kamehameha Highway in Laie. The project proposes demolishing 3 existing two-family homes on the site and building 2 one-family homes now and building 2 more two-family homes later.

The existing homes are almost 80 years old and will be replaced with new rental housing (not short-term rentals). Local Laie renters need more affordable housing options, and this project will provide better and safer market rate rental opportunities. The project preserves public beach activities for open space and recreation. The project site is protected from erosion by the Bathtub Beach reef and a state-approved revetment. Multiple coastal engineers have also studied the property, and don’t believe erosion (due to sea level rise) will compromise the project.
