Our island community is something that we should be able to be proud of, somewhere we should feel safe, somewhere that we should be able to walk without fear of harassment, aggression, threatening and criminal behaviour. Because of the repeated actions of a group of youths, this is sadly not the reality. Woman and children are being threatened with rape, members of the public are being followed home, criminal damage to property and vehicles is a common occurrence, motorists are being abused, elderly people are being menaced for money, people are being subjected to death threats at their own homes, the list goes on and on. Just last night we were verbally abused, followed home, had damage to our car and threats made against us and the property that our baby boys were inside of. After making this incident known publicly we were inundated with people that also shared horrific experiences with this same group, too many to count. The contact we had with some of the parents of those involved made it abundantly clear that relying on them to take responsibility for the actions of their children will be fighting a losing battle. Enough is enough, this behaviour cannot continue. People need to be held accountable for their actions and with this petition, we the undersigned plead to the local authority to take action against this menace and sanction these individuals with antisocial behaviour orders and parenting orders to their parents. I implore you to sign this petition to give our community a fighting chance of being the kind of place the rest of us deserve.
