Dear Readers,
This year is our 100th as a student newsroom.
As many of you know, The Quadrangle has been suffering from budget cuts since Fall 2023, when Manhattan University implemented drastic school-wide cutbacks. These cuts have resulted in our publication going from a weekly print schedule to an online-only format.
This year, our publication was told that we would be allocated enough funding to cover all of our necessary online platform subscriptions, as well as to print our fall and spring special issues. Unfortunately, these pledges did not become a reality, and our newsroom is left struggling to afford existing online.
Our centennial celebration was always supposed to be a bright one, and has been something our staff has excitedly talked about as a group for the past few years. Now, with no funds at our disposal, we are turning to you for help.
We need to show Student Government and the administration at Manhattan University that The Quadrangle is an impactful voice on this campus - and is one that needs to stay around. Our mission is and always has been to give a voice to those who need it and to provide the unequivocal truth about what is happening around campus. In a world where fake news runs amuck, student newsrooms are more important than ever to both inform our communities and to train ethical, independent journalists who will one day join the professional world.
While we do need funding to stay alive, in print and online, all we ask you for today is a signature. A signature to represent that you support and understand the intrinsic value of having a student newsroom on campus. Whether you're a student, alumni, faculty, staff, or community member, we hope that you will join us in our mission to show Manhattan University that the oldest publication on its campus deserves a chance to thrive.
Until next time,
Grace Cardinal, Editor-in-Chief
