We are a group of City Year employees, alumni, and supporters who believe we have a responsibility to make City Year a better workplace. City Year is an organization that claims to believe in social justice yet it continues to ignore the grievances of its corps members on whose very backs the organization is built. Despite its idealist rhetoric about community service in under served schools City Year’s work environment is rampant with abuse, violating basic labor standards and thereby impeding the creation of healthy educational institutions.

WE DEMAND:

1.A LIVING WAGE!

2.WE DEMAND A REASONABLE AND MANAGEABLE WORKLOAD!

3.WE DEMAND THE ELIMINATION OF WORK ASSIGNMENTS NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO SERVING SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS

4.WE DEMAND THE SAME DRESS CODE AS SCHOOL PERSONNEL!

5.WE DEMAND ALL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION HOLIDAYS OFF!

6.WE DEMAND ADEQUATE PREP TIME FOR LESSON PLANNING

7.WE DEMAND AN 8-HOUR WORK DAY!
