Pass a mandatory spay and neuter law/change AC intake protocols
The Issue
Millions of dogs are dying everyday accross the nation. Roswell, a city in New Mexico, is by far one of the worst. Rescues are overwhelmed by the number of dogs that need help EVERY DAY. They may save 40 but the very next day there is another list already put together threatening euthanasia to perfectly healthy adoptable dogs. Whats worse is that every single time we only have a few hours to think up of a plan to save them. This animal control facility only gives their inmates 7 days and nights; if not pulled from them by the 8th day at 7 am most of the time they are immediately put down all for what? For lack of space? THAT IS NOT RIGHT. The council, the Mayor should do something about this! How is it that in a city with a population a little under 50,000 people there are probably hundreds of thousands, of dogs and cats killed every year? There is something very wrong with your system. All we ask of you, Mayor Kintigh, is to implement change in your city. In your agenda there are probably more important things than trying to save the innocent lives of countless dogs and cats but I invite you to walk through the halls of Roswell Animal Control and see for yourself. Put yourself in the shoes of the shelter staff, volunteers and rescuers just for one day so that you may see the horror that your city's people give us on a daily basis by being irresponsible pet owners. Since they cannot seem to properly care for their animals and prevent countless litters, we ask that you make it mandatory for them to spay and neuter their animals. There are many low income people, too, so a program to help them with the cost of sterilization would help so much, I am sure. Try regulating the breeding of dogs and cats in your city and make sure your law enforcers do their job by actually enforcing these laws. Another thing we want you to consider looking at is the Animal Control's protocol for intake. They consider vaccinating a dog or cat that comes into their facility a "waste of time and resources". Well, let me tell you something: these shelter workers are at a high risk for contracting zoophilic diseases from these animals. They do not know if they are rabid. What if they get bit? Does that have to happen first before Roswells' protocols are even considered as faulty and in obvious need of change?
