Help Us Stop the 116 Waldemar Avenue Project

The Issue

Dear Fellow East Boston Residents,

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Thomas Falcucci (one of the many developers taking over East Boston) wants to demolish a single family home on 116 Waldemar Avenue and replace it with a non-compliant, four-story condominium building with nine units and nine parking spots. Back in October of 2019, at the Orient Heights Neighborhood Council Meeting, we voted this project down by an overwhelming vote of 2 (yes) to 46 (no). Can you believe that with this overwhelming vote of NO, Mr. Falcucci (the developer) still went and appealed this project to the Zoning Board for a permit application WHICH THEY GAVE HIM!!!! We had that meeting back in July, in which he asked for yet another deferral.

Waldemar Avenue is zoned for single family construction only, having lots about 4,000 square feet each. In his proposal, Mr. Falcucci violates the existing zoning ordinates. His proposal will add cars and traffic to our neighborhood. Let's say one family today has two cars. (working mom, working dad) Nine units would give us 18 more cars on street and off street parking. As we are currently, there already is a parking issue that Boston needs to address. Let's also address the issue of privacy... I am the one creating this petition. My backyard, my neighbor's back yard, and my neighbor next to that will be most affected. Once this structure is erected, this will come higher than all of our back yards. Our back yard privacy is gone. How would you feel having someone watch your family get togethers/ or you relaxing on your day off in your back yard from their window? The idea of random people can now watch, or intervene at eye level? This project also abuts our homes, families who reside here who have families, both children and adults with disabilities who live in them.

I know some of my points are more personal, but along with personal, this idea is all around terrible! Not to mention as well as to as structural reasons why this is just not a good idea. I feel that East Boston has become an area that has been too over built and we need to come together as a community and stop these developers from over populating Eastie, and over building.

Please help me and my neighbors in our fight to shut down this project. I welcome anybody and everybody's imput who would like to join our fight!

Our next date is supposed to be October 20, 2020. Unless Mr. Falcucci plans on pulling our tail and deferring again. Please share this and help us get as many signatures as you can!!!!

LET'S TAKE EASTIE BACK!
