Help Save the Wrigley Tavern Garden!

Help Save the Wrigley Tavern Garden!

The Issue

The Wrigley Tavern Garden was once a neglected, empty lot filled with garbage and weeds. It was often cited by the city for its poor and sometimes dangerous conditions. Neglected for over a decade, the once thriving neighborhood vegetable garden was now home to rats, mountains of garbage, and hazardous waste. But that was about to change.

In 2019, owner of the Wrigley Tavern, Tommy Mofid, broke ground on his vision to create a welcoming, community-oriented space where musicians, artists, local small business owners, and families could gather to enjoy a safe outdoor dining environment at the height of the pandemic, when indoor spaces were shut down. It was constructed entirely with the collaboration and dedicated work of neighbors, local business owners, and friends. Today, it hosts musicians, artists, cultural performances, local small business vendors-- even weddings and graduations! But its impact is much more far reaching.

Since its construction, the Wrigley Garden has transformed into an an environmental haven, bringing a much-needed green space to an otherwise barren area. Patrons are surrounded by hummingbirds, monarch butterflies, and urban honey bees who drift above the banana grove, grape vines and beautiful jasmine hedges. This is a serene and green third space, where families and locals from all over Long Beach can enjoy each other's company safely, despite an ongoing pandemic.

Unfortunately, due to changes in the post-covid permitting process, the Wrigley Tavern is in danger of being shut down by the City. That's where you come in.

This garden has helped revitalize the Wrigley corridor, brought a much-needed community green space, stimulated the local economy, and has become a staple of the Wrigley community. Join us in saving the Wrigley Tavern Garden by signing our petition today. Let Long Beach City Council know how important this space is to us!
