The big blue steel truss bridge on the East End of Portland is a unique architectural gem in our community! This bridge was built in 1941 and is a part of our heritage that we would like for it to continue to be a part of our future! The bridge is slated to be removed and replaced with a plain concrete pedestal bridge in the spring of 2023. This new style of bridge would have a concrete pillar go into the creek bed below and could potentially add to our ongoing flooding concerns for our community. The Indiana Department of Transportation and our community leaders have been very helpful and kind with explaining the process of evaluating the bridge but unfortunately very few people in our community knew about the meetings when the bridge was being discussed and therefore many didn't have an opportunity to effectively voice their thoughts and opinions. If you would like to see the bridge preserved and saved for the future, please sign the petition and don't forget to share the link to help get the word out! We need to get as many signatures as possible to show there is enough Community Support to relook at the Bridge Project and save this treasure for the future!
