Help save teacher jobs after budget cut at EHHS

The Issue

Mrs. Zupan, my current AP Language teacher, has been an incredible influence in my life. Her passion for teaching and deep care for her students have significantly impacted my educational journey. It is rare to find educators who go above and beyond to ensure our success, and Mrs. Zupan is one of those rare gems. Unfortunately, due to recent budget cuts in East Hampton, CT, her position along with other cherished educators and valued classes have been cut.

The recent budget vote has placed a number of crucial educational resources in jeopardy. As students and community members, we must understand that our learning experiences shape our future, and eliminating these resources will only put us at a disadvantage. Mrs. Zupan isn’t just a teacher; she is a mentor who guides us, inspires us, and pushes us to exceed our limits. Her classes not only educate but also empower us, fostering a love for literature and critical thinking skills that we carry into all aspects of life.

In East Hampton, the proposed budget cuts threaten to undermine the quality of education by removing positions like Mrs. Zupan’s and eliminating specialized classes that equip students with skills sought after in higher education and the broader job market. According to the Connecticut Department of Education, consistent access to a diverse range of quality educational programs significantly boosts student performance and readiness for post-secondary challenges.

Rather than diminishing our educational opportunities, let us consider alternative solutions to budget constraints. Reassessing priorities, seeking additional funding sources, or reallocating non-essential expenditures can prevent the loss of invaluable educators and classes. For example, there are four tv's in close to every classroom that have not been used in years and could be sold for profit.

By signing this petition, you will help demonstrate to the East Hampton Board of Education that the community values its educators and the quality of education we receive. Stand with us to protect our teachers and ensure that future generations of students can have the same, if not better, educational advantages.

Please sign this petition to overturn the budget vote and secure a future where educators like Mrs. Zupan continue to inspire and educate the minds of tomorrow. Together, we can make a difference and preserve the integrity of education in East Hampton.
