Dear supporters of justice and compassion,

We come to you today with heavy hearts and a desperate plea for help. In a world where every life is precious and every being deserves a chance, we stand united in our fight to save a gentle soul named Smokey. Smokey is a magnificent Cane Corso, a breed that radiates loyalty, intelligence, and affection. However, a cruel twist of fate has placed him on the brink of a tragic end due to a grave misclassification.

Smokey is not a Pitbull. He is a Cane Corso, a breed with a rich history as a guardian and protector, known for their deep bond with families and their unwavering devotion. Yet, despite the unanimous agreement of two experienced veterinarians (Ours and theirs) and Smokey showing a mild, kind, and tender temperament, Smokey faces imminent destruction based solely on a mislabeled identity.

We, the undersigned, passionately appeal to the authorities involved to reconsider their decision and to rectify this devastating mistake. The life of Smokey hangs in the balance, and his fate serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers of misjudgment and misinformation.

Here are a few reasons why Smokey's life must be spared:

1. Expert Opinion: Veterinarians who have examined Smokey unanimously affirm that he exhibits the characteristics of a Cane Corso. Their combined years of experience with various breeds make them the most qualified judges of his true nature.
2. Behavior Observations: In his almost 2years of life, we have seen no evidence of aggression or traits commonly associated, sometimes incorrectly, with Pitbulls. His temperament reflects the gentle nature of a Cane Corso and we are in the process of having him professionally assessed.
3. Breed Discrimination: The case of Smokey underscores the unjust consequences of breed misidentification. Unfortunately the Animal Shelter's lack of a process to properly dispute or concretely identify what is their "best guess" of the dog's actual breed perpetuates these types of calamites for loving pet families such as ours in North Little Rock. Countless innocent dogs face similar fates due to inaccurate labeling, continuing and promoting this cycle of tragedy. 
4. A Second Chance to Live: Every life is worth fighting for. Smokey's life story should not end due to one a dog catchers bias that goes uncontested by design. By granting him the opportunity to continue to enrich our lives, we pave the way for justice, compassion, and the preservation of life.

We, the signatories of this petition, implore those with the power to save Smokey to take immediate action. In the spirit of fairness, empathy, and the pursuit of truth, we urge the responsible parties to reconsider their decision, correct the misclassification, and grant Smokey the opportunity to thrive in a loving and caring environment.

Let us unite and ensure that Smokey's story becomes a beacon of hope, highlighting our capacity for understanding and rectifying mistakes.
