Help Save Pako / Geelong West from High-Rise Development

The issue

The picture above is from the Council's proposed plans - it does not look like the Pako we know and love.

Did you know…….

that Geelong City Council has plans for massive high-rise developments along Pakington St, Gordon Avenue, Autumn Street and Madden Avenue of up to 10 storeys?

the biggest are on the Woolworths site (Pakington Strand), the current railway yards and on the eastern sides of Gordon Avenue and Autumn St?

This would be a planning disaster and would change Geelong West forever. The plans must be stopped and revised to preserve the character of Pako.

If this plan is approved by Council it will cause:

·      Increased noise, overshadowing, loss of privacy for houses close to the high rise.
·      Loss of the low-rise village / Geelong West heritage vibe and charm.
·      Increased traffic down side streets.
·      Increased traffic congestion / gridlock on Pako and surrounding streets.
·      Parking space access problems for residents and shoppers.

We call on the City of Greater Geelong to:

1. Reduce building heights by more than 50%.
2. Undertake a traffic management and parking plan and make it public.
3. Publicise and consult more widely with residents. Follow council’s own policy guidelines!
4. Extend the consultation period beyond 17/09/21 and update the plans to take into account the actual views of residents.
5. Release the final UDF to the public prior to council voting.
