The Issue

Highroads Tasting Room, a unique and invaluable part of our Clayton, Georgia community, is much more than just a space to taste and sip wine; it's a gathering spot, a place where locals and visitors share experiences and explore exquisite tastes from across the globe. Operated by a dedicated resident and her husband, Highroads Tasting Room represents the spirit of local entrepreneurship and the richness of a shared cultural experience.

Currently, Clayton's city ordinance, under Section 4-45, restricts tasting rooms to serving only wines produced within Georgia. This significantly limits the ability of businesses like Highroads to flourish and offer a diverse selection to their patrons. Following the adoption Code of Georgia Title 3, specifically sections 3-6-21.3 (b) (1) and (2), as a replacement or expansion of the current ordinance, can ensure our local landscape stays fresh, allowing these beloved establishments like Highroads to provide a more varied experience.

Implementing this adoption of the Code of Georgia would not only bolster local businesses but also attract visitors, boost tourism, and enhance our city's cultural standing. Imagine a thriving Clayton where Highroads Tasting Room and similar establishments can serve carefully curated selections of wines and beers from across the United States and beyond. Such diversity in offerings will place our city in an elevated category, highlighting the unique charm of our local wine scene.

Supporting this change in legislation is more than just an economic move; it is about fostering community, preserving local businesses, and celebrating diversity in tastes and experiences. The current restrictive ordinance threatens to close the doors of the Highroads Tasting Room, stripping Clayton of an essential part of its soul. By advocating for the adoption of these specific legislative sections, we can ensure that these treasured establishments thrive.

Join us in urging the City of Clayton to adopt Code of Georgia Title 3, section 3-6-21.3 (b) (1) (2), and expand our local ordinances to support our local businesses, enrich our community, and preserve valuable cultural practices. Your support and signature can drive change and help protect the future of Clayton's business and cultural landscape. Please sign this petition to make a difference for Highroads Tasting Room and the entire Clayton community.
