The students of Northside need your help. The Northside School board is cutting dance in half, resulting in our dance teacher, Mrs Ortiz, and almost all NISD dance teachers to travel between 2 schools, only few are exempt from this. This means only 3 classes per school. Mrs Ortiz already has 129 students signed up for dance next year, meaning 50% of the students would be denied dance. The school board claims the reason for cutting dance in half is that there is not enough student interest, which is clearly false. On top of that, dance has many physical and emotional benefits. Summarizing an article from The National Library of Medicine, “dance helps with empowerment, anxiety, depression, motivation and is superior to other traditional exercise.” Please sign this petition so every NISD student has the opportunity to exercise through dance, develop a positive body image and strong self esteem.
