For some considerable time, it has been generally recognised that the A46 through Ashchurch is operating at or above its design capacity.

Gloucestershire County Council is investigating possible mitigations that would likely result in a new road from the A46 around Teddington Hands to the M5 (bypassing Aschurch), but the earliest possible date for the delivery of that scheme is now 2036.

Meanwhile, Tewkesbury Borough Council is progressing a plan to create some 10,000 new homes on the land between Teddington Hands and the M5.

During the last year, traffic delays on the A46 through Ashchurch  have become significantly worse, and it seems reasonable to surmise that has been exasperated by the 100s of new homes that have already been built.

Earlier this year, a gateway review of the Garden Town programme recognised there had been a lack of effective engagement between the communities and the majority of the Council.

Please sign this petition to request that Tewkesbury Borough Council delays approving the start of construction of any new homes as part of the Tewkesbury Garden Town project until the A46 Ashchurch Transport Scheme has been delivered.
