Help Save and Restore Nyack Valley Cottage Congers Little League Fields
Help Save and Restore Nyack Valley Cottage Congers Little League Fields
The Issue
Our local Little League fields — where generations of Nyack, Valley Cottage, and Congers children have learned, played, and grown — are in serious disrepair. Despite repeated requests for help from the Town of Clarkstown over several years, the Hemlock softball field remains unsafe due to severe drainage problems, and the Liberty Baseball Field — a community treasure nearing its 50th anniversary — is at risk of falling into the same decline.
We’re calling on the Town of Clarkstown to take immediate action to restore and protect these fields for the hundreds of kids and families who rely on them every season.
Why This Matters:
For decades, Nyack Valley Cottage Congers Little League (NVCCLL) has been a cornerstone of youth sports and community pride. Our volunteers have invested countless hours maintaining and improving the fields — often at their own expense. Yet, despite promises from multiple Town representatives since 2021, no meaningful improvements have been made.
The reality:
- The Hemlock softball field has major drainage issues that have destroyed our community-funded batting cage and left the field unsafe for play.
- The only assistance received from the Town has been minimal clay refills that wash away after rainfall and a concrete berm that failed to resolve the drainage problem.
- Nearly five years have passed without real progress.
At Liberty Field in Valley Cottage — a facility that will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year — NVCC volunteers have worked tirelessly to preserve a field that generations of children have played on.
Through our own research, we discovered that the Town of Clarkstown actually owns most of Liberty Field, along with the Palisades Interstate Park Commission — meaning the Town has a responsibility to help maintain it.
What We’re Asking For:
We are calling on the Town of Clarkstown to:
- Address the drainage and safety issues at the Hemlock softball field.
- Clarify and assume maintenance responsibility for Liberty Field, which the Town partially owns.
- Partner with NVCC Little League to pursue turfing and restoration projects that ensure these fields remain safe, playable, and sustainable for years to come.
- Provide funding and support to help bring these fields up to the same standard as other neighboring Little Leagues in the area.
Why Now:
Next year marks 50 years of Liberty Field — half a century of memories, dedication, and community spirit. Our players and families deserve safe, well-maintained fields to continue this legacy.
The NVCC Little League community has done everything possible to maintain these fields on our own, but the time has come for the Town to step up and be a true partner in preserving this piece of local history.
Join Us:
Sign this petition to urge Town Supervisor George Hoehmann and the Town of Clarkstown to take action now — before another season is lost to unsafe and unplayable conditions.
Together, we can ensure that our children — and future generations — have safe, high-quality fields to play on and take pride in.
