Help rescues! Build dog parks in neighborhoods where people adopt.

The Issue

I keep seeing headlines that animal shelters are FULL in big cities like Dallas where I live. This breaks my heart.

I adopted a rescue dog, Maci, in 2020. When I tell people we live downtown, they ask if it’s hard to take care of a dog in the city.

  • Yes, it is hard because there are no dog parks on the west side of downtown where I live.

BIG IDEA: Add dog parks in the zip codes that adopt more rescue dogs. Why?

  1. Some zip codes adopt more rescues than others
  2. Dog shelters are FULL
  3. It’s easier to adopt when a dog park is close

The zip code of Downtown Dallas (75202) is the 4th most likely zip code in the city to adopt shelter dogs on a per capita basis. (See source below.)

Think of all the dogs waiting in shelters right now. As a society, we must think creatively to get more dogs adopted.

Right now, I am working with my neighbors on a campaign to add a dog park in Civic Garden, a park at 1014 Main St in Downtown Dallas.

The city seems open to a dog park. However, they want to see broad community support before they agree. Let’s show them we have the backing!
