The issue

If you live in Orange, NSW, there's a good chance you've spotted stray cats wandering along the roads, sometimes more than just one. For many of us, this has become a frequent sight, especially at the Homemakers Centre, where an increasing population of stray cats has turned the area into their makeshift home. These cats, with no owners or permanent shelter, are left to fend for themselves, leading to various issues that affect both the animals and our community.

The growing number of stray cats in the Homemakers Centre presents a significant concern. Without proper intervention, these cats continue to reproduce, expanding the stray population and exacerbating the problem. This not only poses challenges to the cats' welfare but also impacts local businesses, shoppers, and residents in the vicinity. Stray cats can spread diseases, cause damage to property, and even lead to road accidents as they scurry across streets.

Moreover, leaving these cats to live in such vulnerable conditions is inhumane. They face risks from cars, lack of food and water, and extreme weather conditions. As a community, we have a responsibility to treat all animals with kindness and compassion, and it's time we act to improve the situation both for the cats and our town.

We urge the Orange City Council to take decisive action to relocate these cats, preferably to reputable shelters where they can receive the necessary care and attention. Although there’s not a good chance they could all be adopted out and find homes, there’s still a chance, a chance they deserve and we need to try for them, to get a real home. This initiative could involve partnerships with local animal welfare organizations, ensuring that stray cats are both humanely captured and cared for.

By supporting efforts to address the stray cat issue at the Homemakers Centre, we can enhance the quality of life for these cats and make Orange a cleaner and safer place for everyone. We call on the community to come together, raise awareness, and encourage the local government to respond to this pressing issue.

Please sign this petition to show your support for relocating and caring for the stray cats at the Homemakers Centre and urge the Orange City Council to implement a humane and effective solution. Together, we can make a difference and create a compassionate community for all its inhabitants.
