Help relocate the proposed DTA Bus Stop Placement (away from 21st & W. Superior St)

The Issue

Please note: This petition is not against the DTA as we realize it is a vital part of our community. This petition is about relocating the newly proposed bus stop/shelter from 21st Ave & West Superior St. to an area where parking is not so desperately needed. The double bus stop/shelter is currently not located there, it is in the city of Duluth's future plans.

We've always believed in the potential of Lincoln Park, and we were thrilled to hear about the planned renovation of W Superior Street. There is also another renovation planned for the old Anderson Furniture Building. A 30-room hotel, restaurant, retail stores, and spa are on the way, promising an immense boost to our local economy and community. However, this positive leap hangs in the balance, threatened by the seemingly innocuous plan to relocate a DTA double bus stop/shelter on the corner of 21st & Superior St. (on both sides of this street) as it could be located just one block down where customer parking is not needed.

If permitted to be located on this corner, the bus stop will eliminate the only parking available for this multi-purpose building and ten other businesses will be affected by the removal of parking, rendering the Anderson building project unfeasible and drastically affecting the proposed benefits to Lincoln Park.

Practical alternatives have been suggested such as moving the bus shelter near a parking lot or park one block down, where it will not interfere with local businesses. We need your help to urge Mayor Reinert to intervene and stop the DTA from placing the bus shelter at this critical location.

Joel Baird (Two Loons) and Kevin Lund, neighboring building owners across the street from The Old Anderson Furniture building have already met with the DTA and Duluth City Planning a year ago and they felt this fell on deaf ears! Joel has closed his store because of this bus stop, and Kevin has stopped the renovation project for his building. Together all three of us business owners are sending you this petition to sign.

Let's band together to ensure that the promising development of the old Anderson Furniture Building goes forward, Joel will continue his renovations, other businesses won't close due to this DTA bus stop, and the Lincoln Park area can reap the benefits it desperately needs. Please sign this petition. Prevent the DTA bus stop from stifling our community's growth.

NOTE: There is no need to pay any fee for signing this petition! A signature is all that is required.

Sincerely,

DeBora (Craft District Business Owner 2032 & 2030 W Superior St.)
Kevin Lund (Craft District Business Owner 2033, 2031, & 2029 W Superior St.)
Joel Baird (Craft District Business owner 2025 W Superior St.)
