In America, America has a history of mistreatment towards people of color (poc). This had been an issue for decades. This issue starts with the police but expands further than this. Police are quick to accuse people within seconds of interacting causing the accused in some cases to be murdered. The proper precaution of a police officer’s golden rule, of ''treat every victim, witness, suspect, citizen, protester, and child the same way you would hope that, if they were a loved one of your own, you would want them treated, '' is something that they do not use. 

Year by year officers quickly draw weapons before exchanging conversation (Walter Scott). This applies to situations as small as a traffic stop. According to New York Times “ Over the past five years, a New York Times investigation found, police officers have killed more than 400 drivers or passengers who were not wielding a gun or a knife, or under pursuit for a violent crime — a rate of more than one a week.” This cruel unjust behavior does not stop here, it stems off into the court system as well. Judges often harshly charge poc causing lives to be ruined. Simple cases of misdemeanors or wrongfully accused have been given life sentences causing them to die a death before their lives have even begun. 

America needs to find a way to create a better association between the police and the poc community. This will only start when we retrain our justice system to lose its bias and properly proceed without institutionalized hate and racism.
