HELP PUSH RECONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED LOCATION OF IN-PATIENT ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER

HELP PUSH RECONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED LOCATION OF IN-PATIENT ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER

The Issue

STOP ANGEL’S LIGHT FROM OPENING AN IN-PATIENT ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER/ HALFWAY HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITY – HELP PUSH FOR RECONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED LOCATION

As concerned citizens, we are writing this petition to voice our strong opposition to the location of a proposed In-patient Addiction Treatment Center/ Halfway House, which is set to open at 314 Pittsburgh St., New Derry, PA 15671 by Angel’s Light. While we understand the gravity of and need for recovery programs, the proposed location poses a significant public health and safety concern and serious risk of harm to the surrounding community due to its’ proximity to the following:

NO LOCAL POLICE COVERAGE: The nearest police coverage having jurisdiction over New Derry is Kiski Valley Station, which is located 19.2 miles away from the proposed facility. Delayed response times can be expected.

CONCERN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY: The proximity of the proposed facility to children’s recreational facilities, local school district campus, bus stop, residential homes, local businesses, and absence of timely police response to public safety incidents creates a legitimate public safety concern.

ECONOMIC IMPACT: The anticipated negative economic impact on homes and businesses could depress new development, lead to population loss, and incite property tax assessments.

MULTIPLE GOVERNING BODY SUPPORT: The Derry Area School Board, Derry Township Supervisors, and Westmoreland County Commissioners have each passed resolutions opposing the proposed location of the In-patient Addiction Treatment Center/ Halfway House.

We ask for your help to urge Angel’s Light to reconsider the location of its proposed In-patient Addiction Treatment Center/ Halfway House and to choose a different location that will better aid in the well-being, safety, health, and welfare of residents, businesses, and future patients of the proposed facility.
