The Issue

I am deeply concerned about a recent development in Montgomery, TX, where a home developer is seeking permits from T.C.E.Q. ( Permit #WQ0016845001) to discharge treated sewer water (250,000 average gallons per day) into a nearby natural creek (Spring Creek) near Roberts Cemetery Road. The State of Texas has already deemed this creek an impaired waterway. Spring Creek is the county line for Harris County and Montgomery County, Texas. It is also the only natural creek in Harris & Montgomery. This plan poses a significant threat to both the environment and the community’s health on both sides of the creek. It is alarming because pollutants – which current sewer treatment plants do not fully eliminate – will be introduced into our ecosystem, adversely affecting local wildlife and potentially impacting human health as well.

Spring Creek is home to diverse wildlife. One of which is considered threatened by the state of Texas. The Alligator Snapping Turtle. Introducing sewer water, even if treated, risks contaminating this precious natural resource with harmful microorganisms and chemical residues. The environmental impact could be devastating, disrupting the habitat of countless species that rely on this creek for survival.

Exposure to contaminants, like microplastics, pathogens, heavy metals and pharmaceutical traces that may not be fully removed by treatment facilities, poses a risk to residents and wildlife.  In short, even with modern treatment methods, certain pollutants still make their way back into natural water bodies.

Join me in standing against this plan and protecting Spring Creek and its residents on both sides of the creek from potential contaminants. Please sign this petition today to hopefully help safeguard our precious natural resources for generations to come.

There are alternative methods to disposing of waste water other than discharging it into a natural creek.
