The Issue

We need people to be aware, and support us, of a proposal for 9 wind turbines, each 180 meters high, that will stand against the natural splendour of the Galloway hills, visible from Kircudbright, Borgue, Castle Douglas, Laurieston, Gatehouse and more.

It will drastically affect the beautiful 'Artists Town' and the galloway hills, where many people visit each year to enjoy the open natural views. The area is of such outstanding natural beauty that a proposed national park is on the cards.

We already have enough power to supply Galloway homes, so much so that we sell abroad.

The Laird Mannoch Energy Park will spread over Laird Mannoch estate, towering up into the skies.

Each turbine needs 300 tons of concrete to be erected; a total of 2700 tons for 9 turbines! There is a noted high risk to the water supply to the area & the displacement of ground dwelling life.

If their application is successful they will be under the dark skies of Galloway, creating flickering and noise which inevitably affects the local owls, birds, woodpeckers bats and kites. There has been many wind farms proposed and where one goes more will follow.

Peat-forming wetland that is fed by mineral-rich groundwater or surface water, typically having a high water table and supporting a diverse range of plants and animals will be inevitably affected.

We believe Galloway needs to clear such turbines since it is a holiday destination and a place of such natural beauty. This is not a good idea for them to placed here.

We all need to stand together and take action.  Some places need to be protected, this is one of them. Please take the time and sign this petition safeguarding the Galloway hills and tourism for the future.

Thank you for your support.
