Help preserve the Long Street East Community Soccer Field

Help preserve the Long Street East Community Soccer Field
The issue
Preserve the Long Street East Community Soccer Field
The residents of Graceville and Sherwood call on Brisbane City Council to preserve the Long Street East community soccer field as an important recreational space for local families and children.
Over the past few months, local residents have transformed an unused area into a simple community soccer field. What began as a grassroots initiative has quickly become a popular gathering place where children can play, practise soccer, be active outdoors and connect with friends and neighbours.
While this is not a formal sporting venue, it serves an important purpose. The field provides a safe and accessible space for families living in a growing urban area, many of whom have limited access to large backyards or nearby recreational facilities. Every week, local children and families use the field for informal games, exercise and outdoor play.
Access to green open spaces is widely recognised as being important for physical health, mental wellbeing and community connection. The Long Street East field encourages active lifestyles, reduces social isolation and helps foster a stronger sense of community among residents.
We ask Brisbane City Council to recognise the value this community-led initiative has already brought to local families and to ensure the field remains available for recreational use. Preserving this space will help support the health, wellbeing and quality of life of current and future residents.
Please join us in asking Brisbane City Council to protect the Long Street East community soccer field and keep this valuable local space available for everyone to enjoy.
