Tamara is one of many voices that City of Toronto officials have tried to silence in their pandemic political power grab. The City is asking the Ontario Government to grant the City immunity so that residents will lose all rights to question or appeal the City's secret process. Rights that all citizens normally have under the Provincial Planning Act will be removed because the City claims these are "emergency measures" so citizens should have no rights to question them. Sound a little too authoritarian? A little too undemocratic to you?
On March 10, 2021 local Willowdale Councillor John Filion led a decision by Toronto Housing czar Abigail Bond to take from the hundreds of seniors who call Willowdale Manor their home, the green treed parklands that form part of the seniors' homes front yard. The City claims, but refuses to provide any evidence, that these seniors residence parklands are the ONLY PLACE THEY CAN FIND IN THE ENTIRE CITY to drop 64 prefabricated single person living units for homeless men with serious mental and addiction needs - far away from the vital supports located in downtown Toronto.
Affected residents were kept in the dark while Councillor Filion ( who recently sold his mansion in the neighborhood and moved away from the community he claims to represent) slammed those asking questions as "obnoxious" . Residents are demanding to know why Filion and the City worked in secrecy, gave the residents no information, no pre consultation, zero transparency, just the announcement of a "done deal".
