The Issue

I was once in the same position as Trevor Hurd, also known as C MAC. His story resonates with me deeply because I understand the struggle of dealing with a mental health illness while navigating through life. Trevor is not a criminal, despite what his record may suggest. He is an individual battling a documented mental health illness and has been unable to receive proper treatment and therapy.

Trevor's continued encounters with law enforcement are not reflective of his character but rather indicative of our society's failure to adequately address mental health issues. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 2 million people with mental illness are booked into jails each year, nearly 15% of men and 30% of women have a serious mental health condition.

Imprisoning Trevor won't benefit him or our community. It only continues a cycle that hampers individuals like him from making positive progress towards becoming law-abiding citizens. Recently, Trevor has made commendable efforts towards self-improvement, including obtaining his ID, learner's permit, starting a bank account, and agreeing to undergo therapy. These achievements, although unconventional for a 30-year-old, are milestones for Trevor. It shows that he is not only capable of change and self improvement but ready for it. This should be taken into consideration by the court.

We urge the federal court to consider this plea for justice for Trevor Hurd aka C MAC. We ask that his case be evaluated taking into account his documented mental health condition and recent efforts towards rehabilitation rather than solely focusing on past transgressions.

Please sign this petition urging the judge and court to take into consideration Trevor's circumstances before passing judgment. Your signature can make all difference in ensuring fair treatment for individuals like Trevor who are struggling with their mental health whilst trying to turn their lives around.
