The Issue

For over 40 years, my grandfather has been incarcerated in the Nevada prison system. Throughout my entire life of 35 years, he has been a constant source of inspiration and support, even from behind bars. Yet, my son, now 17, has never had the chance to meet his great-grandfather, to go fishing with him, or simply share in the stories of the life he once cherished. My grandfather's dream is simple—to live his remaining days with his family, to enjoy the loving embrace of those he holds dear, and to have the medical attention that he needs, and yes, to go fishing with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

He is not well. His health deteriorates each day being a veteran of the United States & a rancher cowboy & the many years working at the test sites left him with lung diseases and multiple medical issues. Being away from the love and care of his family gets harder & harder as his medical conditions progress & he’s left waiting to be seen for long lengths of time. The prison system simply is not created to support the level of care for the elderly and the prompt attention they sometimes need from medical staff. It’s no place for an elderly sick man & all of us left feeling helpless unable to help him even though he never asks for it. The weight of his advanced age and the burden of 40 years spent in in prison should not overshadow the life he has transformed while incarcerated. Despite the confines of prison, he has aimed to rehabilitate, reflect, and contribute positively.

It is imperative that my grandfather has the opportunity to present these accomplishments and his current rehabilitated state to the Nevada pardons board. Granting him the opportunity to be heard could lead to commutation of his sentence and allow him the parole he deserves.

The vision is both compassionate and feasible: to see him live out his final days surrounded by love rather than institutional walls. His release would exemplify mercy and acknowledgement of a life transformed. My request is not born from disregard for the justice system, but from the belief that even within its structures, humanity and redemption can find a path.

Support my plea for his commuted sentence. Let my grandfather's voice be heard by the Nevada pardons board. Stand with me to bring him back to a place where he can be a part of our lives outside of a phone call. Please sign this petition today and help us realize a future where we can make memories beyond the prison bars. I don’t want to lose all hope in our justice system that’s goal is aimed at rehabilitation if it keeps failing me even after all of our support.
