Why this petition matters

Started by Timothy Steininger

Due to an access easement being granted by the Paulding County Board of Commissioners on October 9, 2018 for a fee of $10, an access road will be bulldozed through beautiful Mt Tabor Park very soon.  Please see the Meeting Minutes of the BOC for that date at www.paulding.gov

This road will access the east side of a new phase of the Riverwood development.  Paulding County regulations require developments of over 250 homes to have more than 1 exit point.  The new Riverwood phase will consist of approximately 370 lots, therefore the emergency access road allows the developer/builder to complete and sell all the lots.

At this point the access road is currently approved for emergency access use and will be gravel with a gate/lock for fire department use only.  This, however, could change if the developer seeks to change the gravel access road to a paved entrance for the new Riverwood phase.  The developer will pay for the construction of the road, but the Board of Commissioners must approve any changes to the original plan of emergency use only.

The construction of the access road is a certainty as the development has already cleared the necessary area for the full 370 lots.  Within the next approximately 3-4 months, road construction will begin in the development and it will most likely be at this time that the bulldozing of Mt Tabor Park will take place.

We ask that you take part in this petition to keep the access road for emergency use only.  The integrity of the park is already being impacted by the clearing to the west and north of it's boundaries, and the gravel access road will also further take away from what was once was a jewel in the county park system.  We must limit the damage to our beautiful park and be sure to prevent the gravel access road from becoming a thoroughfare.

Please contact Post 1 Commissioner Keith Dunn and let him and the other BOC members know that you will fight for what's left of Mt Tabor Park!  Also keep a close eye on upcoming BOC meetings to see what is on the agenda for the meeting dates, as this can be an opportunity to voice your opinion.
