You may have seen that when the Deschutes river gets shallow, mud flats appear seemingly out of nowhere. This is caused by the Mirror Pond Dam in Bend, Oregon. The dam is causing silt to build up behind the dam because there is no passage for silt. Also, fish have little to no ability to get past the dam and go up the river to lay their eggs.
