Help Michigan join the Nurse Licensure Compact State (NLC)

The Issue

House Bill 4935 (sponsored by representative Phil Green) needs to be noticed for a hearing, voted on, and approved by the Health Policy Committee so it can move onto the House floor then to the Senate where it will then be hopefully approved so Michigan can join the 41 other states and become a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

As a Michigan nurse I have spent my time in the Upper Peninsula supporting the remote destination area. Our lower half of the State also is in need of staffing and offers opportunity for nurses to support the larger hospitals.

However, it is only open to those nurses that hold a Michigan license - which takes ample amounts of time and money to obtain. A compact state nurse license holder would be more inclined to travel nurse to the beautiful destination areas Michigan has to offer and help us with staffing shortages, because it is less cumbersome and taxing to do so when you hold a Nurse Licensure Compact State (NLC) license.

Travel Nurses also bring economy to wherever their assignment is located. They pay state taxes and spend their earnings at local stores and events. Sometimes they sign on for up to 51 weeks and continue to grow the economy. Sometimes they sign a permanent position, even growing the economy further.

Let's help Michigan, open their doors for an increase in staffing and heightened economy, join the other 41 states that have already aligned with the NLC.
