I am starting this petition as a survivor of a brutal and life-changing attack. My perpetrator—who inflicted immense physical and emotional harm upon me—will serve just over a year for what he did. This sentence is not justice. It is an insult to the suffering I’ve endured and a failure of the system that was meant to protect me.

The Crown Prosecution Service made the decision to lower his charge from Section 18 (wounding with intent) to Section 20 (unlawful wounding). This decision has left me—and everyone who knows the full extent of what happened—devastated, angry, and heartbroken.

My family, friends, loved ones, and wider community are united in disbelief and outrage. Since I found the strength to speak out, multiple others have come forward online, sharing their own harrowing stories of abuse at the hands of this man. This is not a one-off. This is not his first offence. And without accountability, it will not be his last.

I am currently exploring every option available to have his sentence reviewed. He will be back on the streets reoffending before I’ve even had the chance to rebuild my life or begin to heal from this trauma. That is not justice. That is a disgrace.

The justice system has failed me—and countless others—by allowing this dangerous individual to walk free after such a short time. I am calling for change. For justice. For the voices of survivors to be heard and taken seriously.
