Help Me Keep My Home Until I Can Find a Safe New Place ✌🏼
The Issue
I have the right to heal. I have the right to breathe.
For fourteen years I have been living with great joy in my home in Rheden. Throughout all those years, I have always paid my rent and taken good care of the property. It is a beautifully located home, quiet and close to nature. For many years it truly was my home, together with my dog Blue, my loyal companion for thirteen years. That is exactly why it hurts even more that, because of everything that has happened, I can no longer live there in a healthy way.
The past few years have been very difficult for me. Due to a combination of physical health issues, mental health struggles and impactful family circumstances, I slowly became exhausted. My home, which once was a safe place, became mentally and eventually also physically too overwhelming because of everything that happened. That is not an easy conclusion to accept, especially when you have so many beautiful memories attached to one place.
In order to recover, I am currently staying with someone else, where I receive the rest and support that I need. Things are slowly, carefully improving, and I am actively looking for a new, suitable home – preferably in a green, peaceful environment and closer to my family. I am doing my best to find a solution myself.
Yet at the same time I am experiencing a lot of pressure from the housing corporation: the request that I voluntarily terminate my tenancy, and the threat that otherwise they will take the matter to court. This pressure – “end the tenancy or go to court” – puts my recovery under severe strain again. Losing my home while I do not yet have another safe place to live is not an option for me. It would seriously damage my health and my recovery.
I am not asking for special privileges. I am asking for humanity.
I am asking for:
Time to find a suitable new home.
Understanding for my medical, mental and family situation.
A solution that does not punish, but allows space for healing.
With this petition I am asking the housing corporation and policymakers for more humane rules and a more compassionate approach towards tenants who are ill, caring for family members, or in recovery. Rules that take vulnerability and healing into account, instead of putting even more pressure on people who are already struggling.
If my story speaks to you, I would be very grateful if you would sign. By doing so, you are not only helping me, but also others in similar situations who depend on a bit of understanding and flexibility.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Thank you if you choose to sign and show that everyone has the right to heal – and the right to breathe freely again.
