Help Make UMass Boston PFAS-Free!
Help Make UMass Boston PFAS-Free!
The Issue
To: UMass Boston Administration, Sodexo Dining Services, and the Board of Trustees
We, the students, faculty, staff, and supporters of UMass Boston, urge the university to eliminate all packaging and materials containing PFAS (“forever chemicals”) from our campus dining services and facilities. PFAS chemicals are toxic, long-lasting compounds that contaminate our water, food, and bodies. Their presence in food packaging poses a significant health risk to our campus community, especially when safer, affordable, and eco-friendly alternatives are available.
As members of this university community, we demand the following actions:
Eliminate PFAS-lined packaging in all campus dining locations, vending machines, and catered events.
Replace harmful disinfectants and food packaging with sustainable alternatives.
Implement a yearly environmental inspection that provides UMass Boston with a transparent “PFAS grade.”
Ensure transparency about materials used in food service and promote PFAS-free options.
Our campaign, "Skip the Forever Chemicals," is about protecting our health and holding our institution accountable to its sustainability commitments. We believe UMass Boston can lead by example in the fight against toxic chemicals.
Please sign this petition and help us make our campus a healthier, safer, and more environmentally responsible place.
Initial Campaign Supporters:
Calvin Puglisi, Emeka Moemeka, Aws AbuHassan, Noah Jones, Julieta Nivar De Mota, and Daniel Ramoutarsingh.
